Innovation Description

The Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining (ASGM) AI Management System is an automated web-based platform designed to assist governments and communities alike in addressing key social and environmental issues associated with ASGM by providing three independent and integrated systems, including: 1) a cloud-based system for monitoring and regulating gold production and trade, 2) a real-time crowdsourced site damage assessment and identification system, and 3) an AI-backed early identification system for children at risk of engaging in child labor in ASGM.

Reason for applying

“BAN Toxics has been working with ASM communities in the Philippines and abroad for close to a decade.  Our experiences working as community organizers and researchers have led us to ask ourselves - how do we use our existing knowledge to solve key issues that have been present in our communities for years? The ASGM AI Management System is a culmination of all our various projects over the years and serves as a continuation of these efforts. Funding from the ASM Grand Challenge will help us realize these ideas and jumpstart the development of meaningful long-term solutions for mining communities.”
