Pitch Presentation

Reason for applying

“It is a scandal that, today, some 10% of all the world's minerals are produced by 40 million men and women, many of whom work in dangerous conditions for little pay, using tools and techniques that have hardly changed for thousands of years. The negative social and environmental impacts of their work make headlines, but remediation efforts and investment are sorely lacking. The usual responses are blame, evictions and further marginalization.

The fact that the Artisanal Mining Grand Challenge is changing the narrative and applying an innovation lens to ASM environmental issues is exceptional, exciting, and inspiring.

The Pact Team applied to The Challenge to contribute to, and learn from, the community of creative thinkers and technical experts that CXL is assembling. We want to be part of this energy, vision, and action to make a difference to the sector that we care about through positively reforming supply chains to prevent and remediate the damage done to the environment on which we all depend.

We applied to The Challenge to win, to earn the opportunity to implement a project that will make ASM safer, less environmentally destructive, and more cost-effective. We applied to improve both the lives of the ASM workers we’ve known for many years as well as the soil and water quality where they, and their families, live. ”
